The Warner Hockey School travelled to Washington, D.C. for the 2012 Challenge Cup which ran from Thursday, Feb. 16 - Monday, Feb. 20. The tournament featured the 10 JWHL teams along with 10 other top Midget aged teams from North America. The annual tournament was played at the Kettler Ice Plex, practice facility of the Washington Capitals NHL team. Unfortunately the Warriors found themselves on the short end of the games this year and finished with a dissapointing record of 1 win and 4 losses. The girls outshot the opponent in every game but had troubles scoring and finished out of the playoff round. On Sunday the girls finished the weekend falling 3-1 to Detroit Little Caesars. Sam Sutherland scored the lone Warrior goal. Earlier in the day, the girls suffered a tough 2-1 loss to the London Devilettes. Jessica Sibley scored the only goal in the defeat. Saturday night the girls suffered a 4-1 defeat to Honeybaked. Alexis Larson provided the Warrior goal. Earlier in the day the Warriors fell 4-3 to John Abbott College. Warrior forward Nicole Blanche provided the offense scoring all 3 goals but unfortunately the girls came up short. The Challenge Cup got underway with the Warner Warriors skating to a 5-1 win over the Whitby Wolves. Shannon MacAulay led the way scoring 2 goals. Heather Berzins, Jessica Sibley and Ivana Bilic also found the back of the net and Abigail Clarke picked up the win in goal. It was a disappointing weekend for the team losing close games and the girls will now regroup for the playoffs in Denver.
