Warriors In Washington
January 14th, 2015

Warriors left Warner on Wednesday after school and bussed up to Calgary for the night. The team flew out to Washington early Thursday morning. On Thursday night Becky Davidson, Bryn Labbe, Delaney Ross, Emma Nutter, and Natasha Singer played in the all star game at 7:30pm at the Capitals Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, VA, which is also the Washington Capitals practice facility. The arena is located upstairs of the Ballston Common Mall. The north team lost to South 2-1 but Delaney Ross scored the only goal. After the all star game girls ate at Vapiano's and got back to the hotel for a good night sleep.

Friday morning girls went for a walk, and had breakfast at Panera Bread. Warriors didn't play until 3:30pm, therefore the girls had some time to do team bonding. After pre-game meal the team headed to the rink for their game against Chicago Young Americans. Since the Warriors are missing Shae Labbe, Kennedy Ganser and Codie Cross, the line-up was a little short, but the Warriors played a great game and fought hard. Bryn Labbe scored the first goal of the game, which was the only goal of the 1st period. In the second period Chicago tied the game 1-1 but Warrior winger Janet Xu answered to that goal quickly, making the game 2-1 for Warriors going into the third period. Chicago scored two goals in the third but Sydney Hill's shot from the blueline tied the game 3-3. Neither of the teams scored after that even though both teams had lots of chances. Natasha Singer played in the net. After the game the team ate at the Rock Bottom - restaurant and came back to the hotel for a study hour.

Saturday morning Warriors played their first game against the PA Quackers from Pennsylvania. Girls were still sleeping during the first period and the Quackers scored a goal. In the second period Warriors tied the game by Lindsay Weech's shot to the top shelf. Soon after her d-partner Jane Jacobs dangled her way up to the offensive zone and put the puck in the net. Sarah Stuehr was also able to get the puck in the net from her linemate's Delaney Ross's wrap-around. In the third period Warriors scored three more goals, by Erica Nelson, Delaney Ross and Bryn Labbe

Saturday night Warriors played Honeybaked at 6pm. Honeybaked scored a goal in each period, leaving the final score 3-0 for them. Morgan Lindstein played in the net. Edge and OHA are in the same pool with Warner and they had 0 points, therefore Warriors will be automatically playing in the quaterfinals on Sunday.

On Sunday morning the Warriors played CIHA (Canadian Interntional Hockey Academy, from ON) in the quaterfinals. CIHA scored in the first period, both teams scored in the second period, Warrior goal by Delaney Ross, making the game 2-1 going into the third period. CIHA got their third goal little over two minutes into the period and Warriors struggled to come back. Becky Davidson scored 3:16 left in the game, and Warriors pulled the goalie in the end of the game and CIHA was able to score an empty-netter, leaving the final score 4-2 for the CIHA. Natasha Singer played in the net.

Warrios played their consolation game against Ballmoral Hall at 7:40pm on Sunday night. The Warriors started the game with lots of energy and Delaney Ross was able to score five minutes into the game. Warriors kept up the speed but BH was able to tie the game in the last minute of the period. Going into the second BH scored another one and Warriors went into the intermission break with a score of 2-1. Delaney Ross scored another goal in the third period but so did the BH. The game ended in a loss. Warriors put up a great fight against the BH and tomorrow they will be spending some time watching the Washington Capitals practice and sight seeing. Warriors will be leaving on Tuesday after the grade 12s have wrote their diploma exam.
